A Family Legacy
Although Arlee’s began in the early 80’s, the family views the Arlee’s tradition as having begun with Lily’s (the founder, Mrs. Maria LiwaywayL. Torres) parents, Anatolia P. Arcilla and Romullo C. Lopez, also affectionately remembered as Lola Choleng and Lolo Mulong, who both came from entrepreneurial families.
Lola Choleng came from a family of well-known florists in Pampanga, while Lolo Mulong’s relatives were bakery owners in Manila, long after World War II. Lolo Mulong, himself was an expert butcher and is quite reputable for his Chinese-style cooking.
Lola Choleng, being an entrepreneur by heart, sold variety of goods depending on the season. From cut flowers, to pine trees, to herbal medicines, and even jewelries. She inherited her skills and “good eye” for gemology from her mother who is a former jeweler.
Lola Choleng and Lolo Mulong brought up their children in an entrepreneurial environment and at the same time, stressing out the spiritual values in everything they do in business.
It is Lolo Mulong who said that, “someday we will establish a family corporation.”
This two-fold spirit, entrepreneurship, and spiritual values, was passed on to Lily, who eventually handed it down onto her children. Some of whom are now also working for Arlee’s.
The money inherited from these early beginnings have eventually funded the onset of Arlee's.
